As Peg's baby sister, I don't remember much about her 'growing up' years as she was grown and gone before I was of any great age. I really didn't get to know Peg until she worked in Saudi Arabia, having obtained the position of Head of the OB/GYN unit of the Dharan Medical Center where she worked for 10 years. It was there she met her second husband, McClure, before returning to the Old North State (Beaufort) to teach a California loner about true Southern life. Returning, she began her career as Grandma, eventually having four grandkids prior to her passing in May of 2000. She eventually had six, one, of which, is the spitting image of Peg, not so much in looks, but in attitude and disposition. She would be thrilled!!! With 14 1/2 years between us, it was like two separate generations. After marrying Connie Mack McGee and having and raising five kids, she lead a very full early life. It just worked out that we didn't spend a lot of time together during those years. It was only after she left the country that we really started corresponding and growing closer. We had a great many adventures together.

I can say that Peg went after what she wanted and wasn't shy about expressing herself, and I would give a great deal to be able now to sit down and talk about this reunion. Like Auntie Mame, she would have done it up right and put her own slant on it. I miss you, Girl.

Mary Susan Wood (Royster) (1960)

Peggy was an original. Growing up in the funeral home, Peggy was often pitted against her younger sisters, Bette Anne and me. She usually won! When we became adults, we became best friends and enjoyed many adventures. Peggy had her own style and interests. She never met a stranger and gave her special gift, nursing, a whole new meaning. She knew how to heal the body, mind and spirit. I miss her.
