I always called him by his real name never the nickname given him by his students -he always smiled sometimes he would fall for the trashcan joke many many students pulled on him-but he always laughed at the incidents himself always helped me with my math and
i needed a LOT of help with this subject-I think his smile was his attribute-

Mr. Thompson was a very good teacher of subjects and of life. Remember he taught us Driver's Ed. during those hot summer days? I was driving one morning and decided to pull a stop sign. Of course I was caught, jerked out of the car and given one of the loudest, longest full-throated hubbas ever (for me). Oh, it went on and on! I hear him today when I consider doing something stupid in a car. He was a true Southern Gentleman!

I heard the funny stories about pranks on Mr. Thompson.   However, I was blessed NOT to have any of those pranksters in the geometry class I had with him.   As a result, I got a great foundation in geometry which set me up for success in advanced analysis courses towards my MS in Applied Mathematics at NCSU.  Thanks, Mr. Thompson!
